Following Saturday’s victory, Team India now has two T20 World Cup trophies.

Team India squashed a major victory to secure their second ICC T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa in a nail-biting match on Saturday. The nation erupted in celebrations as India secured the trophy by a narrow margin of seven runs. Adding to the jubilation, a video emerged online showing passengers on a flight breaking into applause after the captain announced Team India’s triumph. The heartening video was captioned, “The exact moment at 30,000 feet the Captain announced we had won the World Cup. On cloud nine indeed! Congratulations.”

This video has gathered over 5 lakh likes since it was shared on June 29.

Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “Yes..!! I was also travelling on the same day and the pilot announced that Team India is the new T20 champion..and believe me most of the passengers including me cried it was the best news heard from any pilot till now.”

Someone said, “It was a flight otherwise everyone would be jumping and screaming.” Another person shared that a similar scene took place on another flight and wrote, “Experienced the same thing on an Air India flight from Mumbai to Doha.”

An Instagram user who works in Indian Railways wrote, “Yesterday I announced it on the Railway wireless Walkie so all my co-staffs and loco pilots who are on duty can celebrate.”

Commenting on the thrilling nature of the match, an Instagram user wrote, “Incredible performance, I was having palpitations, in the end, happy tears. Congratulations team India. Credit to South Africa for an excellent game.”

Many people also expressed sympathy for those who were travelling on Saturday and missed the match. Making this point an Instagram user wrote, “Big loss for them that they couldn’t watch the TERRIFIC match ever!” Another person wrote, “Feeling sad for these guys, who didn’t watch this incredible match.”

Following Saturday’s victory, Team India now boasts two T20 World Cup trophies. The first triumph occurred 17 years ago in 2007, when India defeated Pakistan by five runs under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

On India’s victory this year, Dhoni expressed his joy and described the win as a “priceless birthday gift.” The former skipper wrote, “WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024. My heart rate was up, well done on being calm, having self belief and doing what you guys did. From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home. CONGRATULATIONS. Areeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift.”
