LSG Head Coach Justin Langer Reveals The Story Behind His Famous Dustbin Kicking Video
Justin Langer was the head coach of the Australian national team during the 2019 Ashes series.

The game of cricket can be so intense at times that players often find it hard to hide their frustration. There are many instances where cricketers have been found venting their exasperation on the field. It sometimes puts them in a tricky situation, with fans pointing fingers at their behaviour. Former Australian cricketer and head coach Justin Langer found himself embroiled in a similar kind of a situation back in 2019 Ashes. Langer recently recalled the infamous ‘rubbish bin’ story that had rocked the Test series between England and Australia back then. The incident is also a part of The Test web series.

Langer is currently in India, serving as the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Back then, Justin Langer was the head coach of the Australian national team. England all-rounder Ben Stokes came up with something special in the fourth innings to clinch a miraculous one-wicket victory in the third Test in Headingley. Australia had a golden opportunity to break the last-wicket partnership and clinch a thrilling win. That is when Pat Cummins threw the ball to Nathan Lyon at the non-striker’s end, sensing a chance of a run-out. Lyon, however, missed it. At that moment, Justin Langer was inside the dressing room. He could not control his emotions and kicked a trash bin to express his disappointment.

“I looked there and went bang. I kicked the rubbish bin,” Justin Langer was heard saying in a video shared by the Lucknow Super Giants on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The former Aussie opener was quick to realise that “in that one second, he got angry.”

Justin Langer immediately picked up all the rubbish, which was scattered on the floor and put them back in the bin. Shedding light on the moral of the story, Langer said, “When you make a mistake, you make it up.”

The Instagram post featuring Justin Langer’s revelations went viral and people reacted to it by sharing their take on the incident in comments.

Praising Justin Langer’s sportsman spirit, one user commented, “Cleaning up after he kicked the bin was class.”

Another felt that it was an “awesome speech”.

Applauding the Lucknow Super Giants head coach, one social media user wrote, “You’re a legend JL.”
