A remarkable medical case, in a recent incident, has captured global attention: a team of surgeons in Kazakhstan successfully removed a 30kg tumour from a 65-year-old woman’s stomach. This extraordinary event has left many astonished.
The woman had been experiencing severe abdominal pain for several months, which led to an unusual and alarming increase in the size of her belly. After enduring this distress for some time, she sought medical attention at a hospital in Kazakhstan. Upon conducting numerous tests, doctors discovered a massive tumour in her stomach that necessitated immediate surgical intervention.
The surgery was performed by a team from the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology in Almaty. The tumour, which weighed an astounding 30kg, was one of the largest ever reported. Even the surgeons were taken aback by the size of the tumour once it was removed. The patient’s symptoms began in December 2023, with the abdominal swelling becoming noticeable by July 2024. Under the guidance of Erlan Kucubasov, head of the Oncogynecology Centre, the medical team recommended surgery, which was carried out successfully. The patient is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.
This case is reminiscent of another remarkable incident in China. In 2014, Yang Jianbin underwent surgery to remove the world’s largest tumour, which had grown to a staggering 110 kilograms. Yang’s tumour began as a birthmark and evolved into a massive growth over 25 years. By the time it was surgically removed, the tumour had become the size of a large object, highlighting the extreme progression of such medical conditions.
Both cases underscore the critical importance of timely medical intervention and advancements in surgical techniques. They demonstrate how modern medicine can tackle even the most daunting medical challenges, offering hope and relief to patients facing severe health issues.
