No matter what others are saying, Rohit Sharma seems least bothered about the T20 strike rate of Virat Kohli. Two days after the BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarlar addressed the media personnel, sharing their thoughts about the call-ups. Kohli, who has been in great touch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), might have deservingly clinched a stop. Some fans, however, couldn’t be happy as they raised questions about the veteran batter’s strike rate in the shortest format.

During the press conference, Rohit Sharma was also asked about the same. The question did nothing but leave the India captain in splits. A similar situation transpired ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup when Virat Kohli was the captain of the national team.

A journalist asked about Rohit’s form in 20-over cricket and Kohli couldn’t stop laughing. Both batters have been sharing the Indian dressing room for more than a decade. After Kohli stepped down from captaincy, Rohit was bestowed the leadership responsibility. It, however, didn’t make an impact on their friendship.

As far as Virat Kohli’s T20 form is concerned, as part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the right-hander has already registered 500 runs in his 10 appearances in this IPL. He has batted at a strike rate of 147.49 while maintaining an average of 71.43. The former RCB skipper has smashed one century and four fifties during the campaign.

Speaking about Virat Kohli’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad, Ajit Agarkar said, “We haven’t been discussing Kohli’s strike rate. There is a difference between IPL and international cricket. You need experience. We have got enough balance and power in the team. You look and try to take positives from what is happening in the IPL. The pressure of a World Cup game is different.”

Beside senior players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian team management has roped in several talented youngsters for the T20 World Cup. Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma while Arshdeep Singh will accompany Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj in the pace department. India will begin their campaign at the mega event with a match against Ireland on June 5.
