Bengaluru Techie Shares Videos Of Broken Pavements 'One Slip And A Lifetime Injury'
A Bengaluru software engineer shared two videos in a post, highlighting the poor condition of footpaths in the city.

A Bengaluru software engineer recently likened walking in the city to an “extreme sport” following a close call while attempting to board a bus. According to a report by Moneycontrol, Yogeesh Prabhuswamy Gandige, 41, encountered the incident at the Konanakunte bus stop near Forum South Mall. He shared his frustration on X (formerly Twitter) after narrowly escaping injury due to broken footpaths and poorly maintained infrastructure.

In his post, Gandige shared two videos that showcased rainwater sponge drains, debris-strewn pavements and commuters standing perilously on these unstable structures while waiting for buses. He pointed out the challenge of navigating such conditions, describing how even simple walks in the city require “skill to balance” and the ability to jump between uneven surfaces.

“Walking in Bengaluru is an extreme sport. Need the skill to balance on a tiny concrete strip and to jump from footpath to road!” he wrote.

Choosing not to board the bus that day, Gandige remarked, “No, I didn’t dare take this bus! Just one slip and a lifetime injury – that’s how pedestrians are treated in the so-called “Infra Era”!”

The report also mentioned that Gandige regularly uses the Konanakunte bus stop and the poor state of the footpath often causes him anxiety and delays.

Since Gandige’s post went viral, it has sparked a range of reactions, with many users highlighting the poor infrastructure and the dangers it poses.

One user commented, “Even more shameful for bbmp is that these have been built just now, not old crumbling infrastructure. Even new development is being done in such a shoddy way that there’s no hope. And this is the case all over. Whitefield is covered with this wherever they’ve built these footpaths. And even this took several months to cover just 400m.”

One user joked, “Those that survived and excelled in this sport could go to the Olympics one day!” while another compared the situation to “walking barefoot on broken glass.”

“Pedestrians are lowest in hierarchy on the roads. We do not have good roads, we have worse or non existent footpaths, projects that are started (ejipura flyover, bellandur lake bridge) are left incomplete….,” an individual highlighted.

One user sarcastically commented, “Indirectly the government is preparing citizens for the Olympics.”

Someone else pointed out, “Same situation near the Hope Farm Junction. The footpaths are dug up without any plans and do not get restored ever. Every step feels uncertain. Hope Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike does something about the footpaths in BLR.”
