Shrimad Ramayan Producer Reveals Negativity Faced By Adipurush Motivated Him To Make The Show
Producer Siddharth Tewary expressed his commitment to maintaining authenticity in every aspect of the show, with the support of a dedicated research team.

This year witnessed the release of several highly anticipated and big-budget Bollywood films, including the much-discussed Prabhas and Kriti Senon starrer, Adipurush, directed by Om Raut. However, the film fell short of expectations, with audiences expressing disappointment over weak narration, unimpressive dialogues, and a lack of appeal in the contemporary portrayals of the characters. Despite the controversies surrounding the adaptation of religious mythology on film, producer Siddharth Kumar Tewary has undertaken the responsibility of another retelling of the Ramayan, this time for television.

Sony TV is set to launch Shrimad Ramayan on January 1, 2024. Talking about the TV show, Siddharth Kumar Tewary, the producer renowned for projects like Mahabharat, Radha Krishna, and Porus, talked to India Today and discussed his decision to bring this show in a time when sensitivity around religious and historical subjects is heightened. Unfazed by potential criticism, Tewary expressed appreciation for the audience’s sensitivity towards the history of the country.

Emphasizing his intention to celebrate rather than offend, Tewary highlighted the presence of a meticulous research team dedicated to ensuring the authenticity of every aspect of the show. In light of the creative criticism faced by Adipurush, Tewary clarified his approach to Shrimad Ramayan.

“It’s not my intention to offend anyone. I want them to come together and celebrate it with me. I have a proper research team and everything that’s going out, every word about this show is properly vetted. So if anyone raises a question tomorrow, we have an authentic source that we can count on,” Tewary said.

Reflecting on the negative response to Adipurush, Tewary stated it was the very reason that motivated him to undertake Shrimad Ramayan. He believes this is the opportune moment to enlighten people about the original story, acknowledging the challenges and reactions that might arise.

Addressing the challenge of attracting audiences in an era of easily accessible global content, Tewary emphasised the commitment to delivering a high-quality show. Despite the competitive landscape, he stressed the importance of maintaining the essence of devotion, divinity, and grandeur in Shrimad Ramayan.

The cast of the upcoming TV show Shrimad Ramayan includes Sujay Reu and Prachi Bansal as Ram and Sita, with Nikitin Dheer portraying Ravan. Other notable cast members include Basant Bhatt, Nikhlesh Rathore, Samarthya Gupta, Arav Chaudhary, Shilpa Saklani, and Nirbhay Wadhwa. Tewary remains optimistic about the show’s longevity, aiming for it to be respected and cherished for the next two decades.
