Rubina Dilaik, who recently became a mother to twin girls, has been garnering attention for her inspiring postpartum fitness journey. Keeping the news of her twins under wraps for a month, she introduced them as Jeeva and Edhaa. Prior to their arrival, Rubina initiated a YouTube show called “Kisine Bataya Nahi” during her pregnancy to raise awareness. Through interviews with notable personalities, she addressed various pregnancy-related matters. In a recent episode, she interviewed her mother, Shakuntala Dilaik, delving into the challenges faced during her era. Rubina’s mother shared that discussing pregnancy with the family was a rare case and went on to reveal that she kept her own pregnancy a secret until 7-8 months.
She said, “For 7-8 months, nobody knew. It was only when I visited my parents’ home that my sisters got to know and when I disclosed the news. At that time, this matter was taken very lightly. It was such that we only shared this with our partners, we couldn’t discuss it with our elders or anyone else because of the way we were raised. There were about 21-22 people in our family. I used to live in the village while my husband worked in Shimla, so back then, we didn’t have the convenience of talking over the telephone.”
“When I was in my 7 or 8 months pregnant, I used to work in the fields, walking long distances and climbing hills. So, when I returned home with aching legs, I courageously told my mother-in-law and she took it lightly at first. Later, there was an elderly lady in our village who told her, ‘She is expecting a child.’ My mother-in-law was worried and the lady clarified, ‘She’s carrying a 7-8 month baby in her womb.’ That’s when my mother-in-law found out,” added Shakuntala Dilaik.
When Rubina Dilaik was born, her father returned home approximately 14-15 days later. During that era, the news of childbirth was communicated differently, as her mother shared that when someone was travelling on a bus to Shimla, people conveyed the message to Rubina’s father, saying, “Your wife has given birth, and it’s a daughter.”
Upon returning home, a village tradition dictated that men were not permitted to enter the room where the woman who had recently given birth was resting. It was customary for men to wait until 17-18 days had passed, and the woman had resumed cooking before entering that room. In this specific instance, when Shakuntala’s husband returned and looked from the door, he chose to leave. When questioned by Shakuntala about why he didn’t meet his wife after his arrival, he replied, “How could I meet? I felt shy, all the elders were sitting outside.”
Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla welcomed twin daughters, Eedha and Jeeva on Gurupurab, November 27, 2023. The couple recently unveiled the significance behind their daughters’ names in one of Rubina’s YouTube vlogs. She elaborated that Eedha symbolises prosperity, while Jeeva means lifeline.
