Did Nakuul Mehta Jinx Virat Kohli's Century In India vs Australia World Cup Opener? Fans Think So
Nakuul Mehta was rooting for Virat Kohli to score a century in India vs Australia World Cup Opener.

Cricket fans went crazy after Team India kicked off their World Cup 2023 campaign with an astounding win against Australia on Sunday. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul weaved a whopping partnership of 165 runs, thereby guiding India to a memorable six-wicket win. Looking at the former Indian skipper’s form on the field, it seemed as though Kohli was determined to score a century. Unfortunately, Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood managed to dismiss Kohli in the 38th over. Kohli went for a pull shot but the ball landed straight into the hands of Marnus Labuschagne, standing in the midwicket region. Kohli went back to the dressing room scoring 85 runs off 116 balls and the internet believes it’s television actor Nakuul Mehta who jinxed his century.

What led cricket fans to believe so?

Among the overzealous sea of Indian cricket fanatics tweeting live about IndVsAus, one was the Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 3 fame. He was constantly rooting for Virat to chase the century by complimenting his gameplay. “Kohli resting every GOAT debate to rest. Master in chases. No one comes close,” he wrote on X.

In a subsequent post, the television star also began a countdown for “King Kohli” writing, “Number 48 loading.”

As soon as the update surfaced online, social media users condemned Nakuul for jinxing Virat’s gameplay. Many also referred to him as “Panauti” and “Jinx Mehta.” A fan asked “Just why? Why did you have to post this?”

Another added, “Nazar laga di aapne.”

One more chimed in to sarcastically call him a culprit asking, “Who jinxed his century? Who?” To this, Nakuul responded, “This feels like a personal attack.”

After India’s victory, the television personality also lauded the team’s effort articulating, “Great start to the World Cup by Team India. Terrible work by the BOARD to keep loyal paying fans away from the game.”

India’s bowling attack, headlined by Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav’s excellence, successfully managed to restrict Australia to 199. However, India ran into massive trouble after losing three wickets with only 2 runs on the board. Team India captain Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan went back to the dressing room in the first two overs of the innings. The partnership between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul helped Team India to reach the target with 52 balls to spare. Rahul remained unbeaten scoring 97 off 115 balls.

India will next face Afghanistan on Wednesday, October 11 at the Arun Jaitley stadium, in Delhi.
