Taking forward its Project Leap, Bharti Airtel, communication network has re launched the concept of 'Open Network'.
As the concerns regarding health hazards being caused by cell towers rose, many telecom operators and network service providers were forced to bring down their cell towers from residential areas. This apparently led to another problem of Call Drops.
Airtel had reported that it has reduced call drops to 2% confirming to TRAI's standards. To further improve the connectivity, Airtel has taken this initiative to hopefully elicit a positive response from people regarding cell tower installations.
The first phase of Open Network was launched in December 2015 that gave out information regarding network coverage and signal strength across the country.
Now this information have been made available on mobile app as well. This app would update the users regarding the towers that are being upgraded, the locations where towers need to be installed and the places where earlier the towers had been brought down.
Information regarding Airtel towers can be accessed both on Airtel website's Open Network Page and on MyAirtel mobile app. One can enter the location where the user is present or allow the app to detect via auto - location to know the network strength of the area. Using a simple color scheme, the interface will help the users to know whether the signal present is Moderate, Good or Excellent and also inform in case there is no connection.
They have use of Geo spatial tools and other communication technologies to report about network situation.
“Open Network is a paradigm shift in the way we engage with our customers. With this initiative, we are establishing complete transparency with regard to our mobile network and opening ourselves to customer scrutiny and feedback,” Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer , Bharti Airtel.
