When Siblings Sujitha And Surya Kiran Starred As Child Artists In This K Bhagyaraj Blockbuster

Telugu actor and director, Surya Kiran took his last breath at his Chennai residence on March 11. He died due to jaundice after undergoing treatment at Chennai’s GEM Hospital at the age of 49. The film fraternity was shocked to hear about the demise of the director. Surya Kiran’s sister Sujitha also penned down an emotional note for her brother after his death to wish him a happy afterlife.

Surya started his journey in the entertainment industry through his child artist roles in the movie before venturing in direction. In his film career of over four decades, the actor played prominent child artist roles in movies like Kallukkul Eeram, Mouna Geethangal, Darling Darling Darling, Padikkadavan and many more. Following the footsteps of her elder brother, actress Sujitha also started her career in the film industry at a very young age. But do you know that once this brother-sister duo shared the screen as a child artist in a K Bhagyaraj movie?

The movie was titled Mundhanai Mudichu and was released in 1983. It starred K Bhagyaraj and actress Urvashi in the lead roles. It was written and directed by K Bhagyaraj. During the filming of this movie, the actress Sujitha was several months old while Surya Kiran was nine years old while playing the child artist role in this movie. Sujitha played the character of K Bhagyaraj’s son in the movie whereas Surya Kiran played the role of a schoolboy in the film.

Mundhanai Mudichu became a major box-office success and collected over Rs 4 crore worldwide. It was made on a budget of Rs 30 lakh. The movie was remade in Bollywood as Masterji in 1985. The music of the movie was given by Ilaiyaraaja. The movie revolves around the story of actress Urvashi who married widower K Bhagyaraj after accusing him of sexual misconduct in the movie.

After the demise of Surya Kiran, Sujitha shared a few pictures of her with the actor and wrote, “Cheta, rest in peace”.

After featuring in over 200 films, Surya Kiran made his directorial debut with the Telugu romantic drama Satyam in 2003. It was one of the significant milestones in his career as it was a super hit and ran in theatres for over 150 days. This film starred Sumanth and Genelia Deshmukh.
