Sukanya gained fame through films like Chinna Counter, Kodavasal, Mahanadi, and Mr. Madras. Despite not sharing the screen with Rajini, she had a minor role in Kaala and currently hosts the show Pepsi on Pothikai TV.

Following her marriage, Sukanya relocated to the US, where she had a son and a daughter. However, due to issues with her husband, Sukanya went through a divorce and now resides with her daughter. She encouraged women not to endure an unhappy marriage, stating that hesitation could lead to prolonged difficulties. She also revealed that her exit from acting was influenced by the control of a politician who impacted her life negatively. However, she now advocates for mutual divorce, expressing the importance of finding happiness alone.

Sukanya was initially slated to reprise her role as Senapathy’s wife in Indian 2. However, recent speculation hints at Priya Bhavani Shankar possibly taking on the character. It’s rumoured that Priya will undergo significant makeup to portray an eighty-plus-year-old character for most of the film while maintaining a youthful appearance in flashback scenes.
