Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party appointed senior leader Avinash Pande as the general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
In this major organisational shift, Pande replaced Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who had earlier served as general secretary in-charge of the state.

Expressing his gratitude regarding the development, Pande said that he resolves to build upon Priyanka Gandhi’s legacy. He further said, “As General Secretary Inchagre, I will make the most of the authority invested in my position and the mandate given to me. ”
Who is Avinash Pande?
Pande, a former Rajya Sabha MP has formerly also been in charge of the party in Jharkhand. He was also a member of the Congress Working Committee.
The leader is a lawyer by profession and hails from Maharashta’s Nagpur. As per an India Today report, he rose to Congress leadership through the party’s students’ wing and the Youth Congress.
Elected as a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra in 2010, Pande has also served as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council and of several administrative committees in the state.
In 2018 Rajasthan polls, he was appointed as the in-charge of the state but with the debacle between Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot, he was removed from the post.
He was also appointed as the AICC General Secretary in charge of Jharkhand, in January 2022.
