New Delhi: Swaraj India co-founder Yogendra Yadav on Wednesday met a group of protesting farmers from Tamil Nadu at Jantar Mantar and extended his solidarity to them. Avik Saha, National Convener of Swaraj India's 'Jai Kisan Andolan', announced the party would lead a Yatra in the drought-hit districts of Tamil Nadu.
Yadav also said they would seek justice for farmers in the courts. "We shall file an affidavit on behalf of the farmers of Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court and seek extension of drought relief package to the state. We are hopeful that the apex court will grant relief to the farmers, even if the Government of India is blind to their helpless condition," he said.
Avik Saha said, "Swaraj Abhiyan will lead a Yatra to the drought affected districts of Tamil Nadu to inform people about Supreme Court's drought relief orders, do on-ground survey and to stand beside all suffering farmers. It is shameful that although drought has been declared in Tamil Nadu on 10th January 2017 and 70 days have passed since, the Centre has not released a single rupee from the National Disaster Relief Fund till date. This shows the anti-farmer, anti-village mindset of the Modi government."
