New Delhi: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday welcomed the 2G trial court's order on P Chidambaram, dismissing the plea against him by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy. Welcoming the verdict, Mukherjee said, "Someone was unfairly persecuted. Even in the Supreme Court's order, it was never mentioned that the (then) finance minister's (P Chidambaram) directive was ignored. Rather, it was the Finance Ministry that was mentioned by the SC."

Meanwhile, Congress leader Salman Khurshid said that the court verdict was a relief. "We have full confidence in the court. There is no questionable dimension regarding the verdict."

Providing a major relief to not only Chidambaram but also to the scam-tainted and beleaguered Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government, the Patiala House Court of Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge OP Saini said that no case can be made out against Chidambaram in the 2G scam.

Judge Saini took 30 minutes to decide the case and then pronounced that Swamy's petition had been dismissed. The Judge read out a very short and terse two-line statement telling Swamy that his petition was being dismissed as on the basis of the facts which had been presented by the petitioner before the court, the judge did not believe that those facts were so strong as to make Chidambaram into a co-accused in the 2G scam.

Swamy also made an attempt to get to ask the judge about some more reasons, but those attempts were not entertained.
