Patna: The Patna blasts are being seen as a major lapse on part of the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar. While Nitish says there were no intelligence inputs, the BJP has said that Nitish was asked to provide extra security cover for it's PM candidate Narendra Modi's Hunkaar rally.
In fact, the blasts also come just a day after President Pranab Mukherjee's visit to Patna. Questions are being raised as to why there was no extra security cover at the entry and exit points of Patna when two VVIPs were scheduled to visit the city.
Even at Gandhi Maidan, where Modi's Hunkaar rally wa scheduled, there was not enough security. Of the eight check points at Gandhi Maidan, there was security at just one while the other gates did not have enough security personnel.
There were no metal detectors or frisking at the remaining entry gates at Gandhi Maidan. Commandos were not used as a physical deterrence. The anti-terror response mechanism for a such high profile event was very poor. The overall upgradation of anti-terror apparatus was also poor.
Meanwhile, some reports even say that the Centre had asked the Bihar government to make extra security arrangements.
The BJP said that even as there were no intelligence inputs about the blasts, Nitish was given inputs that a huge crowd is expected at the Gandhi Maidan and thus, extra security was required.
Bihar BJP leader Sushil Modi has accused Nitish Kumar of ignoring the party's request for extra security cover during Modi's Hunkaar rally in Patna.
He also said that even as 20 officials of the Gujarat Police were camping in Bihar, there was no co-operation. "There was complete non-co-operation on the part of the state government," he said.
