New Delhi: The Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance created history in Punjab by retaining power with a comfortable majority. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal thanked the people of Punjab and appreciated his party's performance in the state.
Reacting to the victory, Parkash Singh Badal said, "One of the two reasons we won is that the BJP gave its full fledged support to us. And the other reason which worked for us is the work we have done for development in the state."
He also appreciated the role of his son and deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in helping the party retain Punjab.
Commenting on the Congress' defeat in the state, Badal said, "There are several reasons for the Congress' defeat, including corruption and inflation."
Badal, however, did not comment on who will be the chief minister and said that the party will decide.
The SAD-BJP combine reached majority in Punjab and have won 63 seats in the state.
