New Delhi: The women voters in North and Central areas of Delhi are demanding a clean city. Even though the region is in the heart of the national capital, heaps of garbage can be seen lying everywhere and the condition is same in both commercial as well as residential areas.
"Cleanliness is the major issue here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan', but what happened. There has been no difference," says Shobha Sharma, a businesswoman in Chandni Chowk.
Sanitation is other major issue as there are no washrooms for women in major markets like Sadar Bazar and Ballimaran, which are also Assembly constituencies. The existing washrooms in Chandni Chowk are in such a bad shape that one cannot use it.
"Even though we are being charged Rs 2 for using washrooms, it does not have proper facilities. There is no water. It is not cleaned," she says.
Another woman voter from Ballimaran also backed her. "Cleanliness, electricity and unemployment are the major issues here. We voted for Aam Aadmi Party but they ran away after 49 days. Now I want to give Bharatiya Janata Party a chance," says Hasmirat Kaur.
With streets being extremely narrow in all the three commercial areas, it gets very difficult to cross the lanes. Even some of the schools are in very bad shape here.
Traffic jams, no parking facility, transportation, lack of water, security are some of the other issues highlighted by the voters here.
While parties have been focusing their campaign on women security extensively, but for North and Central Delhi voters the issue does not figure in the list. There has been development in Old Delhi with construction of metro but a lot needs to be done
