New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah will jointly address an election rally in Gaya district of Bihar on Sunday. This is Modi's second visit to Bihar within a span of just 20 days after becoming the Prime Minister in May 2014.

There has been a war of words between Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on the DNA remark and with both sides trading charges the stage is set for a bitter and personal battle for Bihar Assembly.

The public meeting also comes in the backdrop of Centre appointing a new Bihar Governor.

Meanwhile, intensive checking of incoming and outgoing vehicles is being conducted at various checkpoints. Gaya District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said that over 2,000 police constables and 1,000 magistrates and police officers have been deployed especially on rally duty.

The security arrangements are apart from the inner circle security provided by Special Protection Group to the Prime Minister. Traffic plan of the city has been strengthened.

"We have rehearsed the carcade movement today. Ten new gates have been made at Gandhi Maidan rally venue to deal with crowd. Earlier, there were just three gates. CCTV cameras have been mounted at vantage points. Metal detectors have been installed at the gates. Everything will be 100 per cent ready by today evening," Agarwal added.

Modi is expected to arrive shortly after noon to address the rally and fly out of the city after it ends. Modi had visited Patna on July 25 to launch several central government schemes and facilities and had addressed a political rally at Muzaffarpur in North Bihar.

After being decimated in Delhi Assembly elections, the Bihar elections is a litmus test for the Narendra Modi government and it is not taking any chances. With top leaders of the National Democratic Alliance actively involved in campaigning and reaching out to people informing various schemes, it is to seen whether it will materialise in votes.
