Mumbai gangrape a heinous crime, should not have happened, says Sonia
A 23-year-old photojournalist was gangraped by five men on Thursday evening at Shakti Mill in Lower Parel of Central Mumbai.

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi condemned the gangrape of a photojournalist in Mumbai and said, "It is a heinous crime. It should not have happened and I am saddened." She spoke on the sidelines of the inauguration of a national media centre in New Delhi on Saturday.

The gangrape incident have raised serious questions over the security of women and the issue has rocked Parliament from the last two days. The Opposition has cornered the government over the issue and demanded a strict punishment for the culprits.

BJP leader Gopinath Munde raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and asked the Central government to demand a report from the Maharashtra government over the deteoriating law and order situation. Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada raised concerns over the security of women and said she does not feel safe in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath said Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will make a statement on Mumbai gangrape in Lok Sabha on Monday.

A 23-year-old photojournalist was gangraped by five men on Thursday evening at Shakti Mill in Lower Parel of Central Mumbai. Mumbai Police had cracked the case on Friday and have arrested two of the accused so far. The three accused are still at large and the police have launched a massive manhunt.
