Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hira Ba prayed for his victory in the Assembly elections in the state and also gave him blessings, hoping that he would soon become the prime minister of India. After casting her vote, she said that Modi has worked for the development of Gujarat and she believed that he will be the winner in the elections.
When asked about Modi's prime ministerial ambitions, Hira Ba said that her blessings are with her son and he would soon become the prime minister.
If the BJP wins, Modi - whose image towers over that of the party and who has been chief minister since 2001 - could start playing a larger national role both in the BJP and pan-India politics. A defeat for the BJP could, however, puncture Modi's larger political ambitions and prove a great morale booster for the Congress ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Voting in Gujarat took place in two phases - December 13 and 17. The counting of votes will take place on December 20 along with Himachal Pradesh.
