New Delhi: Even as the row over his induction into the Bharatiya Janata Party turned ugly, a close aide of Narendra Modi defended expelled JDU leader Sabir Ali, saying the party had never questioned his antecedents.
"If any of the allegations (against Ali) were true, do you think the JDU would have allowed such a baggage? No BJP leader till date were questioning about his antecedents," Zafer Sareshwala said.
The BJP on Saturday annulled Ali's membership as the party infighting over his alleged links with the Indian Mujahideen turned ugly.
The RSS and a section within the BJP were opposed to Ali's candidature over his alleged links with Yasin Bhatkal, the founder of the Indian Mujahideen.
Taking a jibe, BJP spokesperson even tweeted, "Terrorist Bhatkal friend joins BJP. Soon accepting Dawood."
