Barasat(WB): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday lambasted the Centre for not properly maintaining the National Highway's (NH) in the state.
"Most of the NHs in the state is in very bad shape. We are requesting the Centre for repairing the NHs passing through the state but they have not responded to our request to repair the NHs," she told a press conference here.
"If they (Centre) don't repair the NHs which are in very bad shape then we (state government) will be forced to repair them of our own," Banerjee said.
Earlier the chief minister accompanied by a large number of ministers including Railway minister Mukul Roy, Union minister of state for Urban Development Sougata Roy and a number of state ministers held a review meeting with the officials of the North 24 Parganas district administration

State Power minister Manish Gupta, Transport and Sports minister Madan Mitra, Panchayat and PHE minister Subrata Mukherjee, Civil Supplies minister Jyotipriyo Mullick, Irrigation minister Manash Bhuiyan, Backward Classes minister Upen Biswas, chief secretary Samar Ghosh, Director General of Police Naparajit Mukherjee and District Magistrate Sanjay Banswal attended the meeting.
After the meeting the chief minister said we reviewed the functioning of all the departments to find out what work they have done in one year.
We also reviewed the law and order situation in the district as North 24 Parganas share a large international boundary with Bangladesh, she said.
Banerjee also inaugurated a Women police station.
