Bhopal: The region of Bundelkhand might be reeling under drought but the leaders there still don't seem to bother. The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved a hike in salaries for MLAs.

With the new hike, salaries of MLAs will go up to Rs 1.10 lakh per month as opposed to the Rs 71,000 they earn currently.

The salary of the chief minister will also be hiked from the current Rs 1.43 lakh per month to Rs 2 lakh a month.

The issue is slated to be taken up for clearance in the Vidhan Sabha.

This comes a day after the Telangana Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a bill to hike salaries of Chief Minister, Ministers and members of both Assembly and Council.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly has also proposed a salary hike for MLAs to at least Rs 2 lakh a month. The salary hike for the MLAs has been recommended by an Assembly committee citing rising inflation.
