Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been likened to medieval ruler Muhammad bin Tughluq by Opposition leaders for his demonetisation decision, but Lalu Yadav gave it a much lighter touch by comparing him to a character from literature: Uncle Podger.
In a series of tweets on Friday, the RJD supremo said the way Modi acted in banning Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes reminded him of Uncle Podger in the Jerome K Jerome comedy novel Three Men in a Boat.
During study days, read a poem "Uncle Podger hangs the picture". #DeMonetisation chaos reminded me of him striking similarities wth Modi— Lalu Prasad Yadav (@laluprasadrjd) November 25, 2016
Uncle Podger, who appears in a chapter in the classic, undertakes to do a job and then creates chaos for all those around him. "PM Modi is playing the role of Uncle Podger and is troubling the RBI, finance ministry and the public, another one said.
मोदीजी ,अंकल पोड्जर का "Role Play" कर रहे है इसलिए ही वो RBI, वित्त मंत्रालय, सरकार, जनता, बीजेपी व किसान को परेशान करने पर तूले हुए है।— Lalu Prasad Yadav (@laluprasadrjd) November 25, 2016
PM Modi "over promises and under delivers" Lalu tweeted explaining the scene in the book where Uncle Podger when he sets out to hang a picture, first boasts he doesn't need anyone and then pulls in everyone and makes a mess of it.
Like Uncle Podger, Modiji boasts he needs no one,bt soon employs evryone, creates mess, blames all-Picture out of frame &himself out of scene— Lalu Prasad Yadav (@laluprasadrjd) November 25, 2016
Modi has defended the demonetisation decision saying the only ones angry about it are the corrupt who were caught unawares on what to do with their black money.
