Chennai: Political mudslinging over the twin blasts in Chennai on Thursday continued with DMK chief M Karunanidhi hitting out at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for not coming to Chennai to enquire about the injured. Jayalalithaa is currently taking rest at her sprawling tea estates in the hill town of Kodanad.

In a statement, Karunanidhi said that Jayalalithaa had criticised his handling of the 1998 serial blasts in Coimbatore when he was the chief minister. Seeking to clarify his handling of the 1998 blasts, Karunanidhi said he had immediately contacted then Prime Minister IK Gujral, who promised all assistance to the state.

He also said that while Jayalalithaa had demanded his resignation then, he would not talk like that now.

One woman was killed while 14 others were injured as two blasts hit the Bangalore-Guwahati Express at the Chennai Central Railway Station.
