New Delhi: Lalit Modi is in no mood to give up even though he was suspended late on Sunday night by the Board of Control for Cricket in India as Indian Premier League chairman.
Modi on Monday wrote on Twitter that he is still the IPL chairman.
"I am still chairman of IPL. Just suspended. Wait - we have just begun. Had a restful day. Been in the spa all day. Much needed rest," Modi tweeted indicating that he is ready to take on the BCCI over his suspension.
Sources close to Modi has been claiming that his suspension is illegal and he will fight it. He is consulting top lawyers about the legal battle and has been preparing a response to the BCCI chargesheet.
Sources say Modi feels the decision to suspend him as IPL chairman was based on false allegations and he will wait for former BCCI president AC Muthiah's case against cricket board Secretary N Srinivasan, whose company India Cement owns Chennai Super Kings.
Modi is also hoping that BCCI will find it tough to get a three fourth majority in the annual general meeting to oust him from the post of IPL chairman.
There are 22 charges in the BCCI chargesheet against Modi. The important charges levelled against him are:
1. Rigging bids in aborted round of bidding for two new teams
2. Encouraging, attempting collusive bidding
3. Unexplained $80 million facilitation fee about which BCCI was kept in dark
4. Arm-twisting successful bidder, Kochi, to withdraw
5. Indiscipline, levelling baseless charges against BCCI bosses
6. Non-disclosure of interest/stake in RR, Kings XI & KKR
7. Misappropriation of funds
8. Irregularities in awarding broadcast & internet rights
9. Ignoring irregularities in RR in which Modi's kin holds stake
10. Breaching confidentiality clause by tweeting Kochi's share-holding pattern.
