Ambala: Congress will pay a "heavy price" in the upcoming Haryana polls for "dividing" the Sikh community by creating a separate body for managing Sikh shrines in the state, Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) said on Sunday.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said that the Congress had challenged the supremacy of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, which had highest regards among the community.

He also urged the Sikhs to teach Congress a lesson in the October 15 polls. SGPC along with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) were at loggerheads with Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in Haryana after it created a separate body to manage affairs of Sikh shrines in the state.
