Goa Assembly polls: BJP-MGP tie-up on cards
MGP is currently a part of the Cong-led ruling coalition in Goa, but has indicated that it might join hands with BJP in upcoming polls.

Panaji: The BJP on Thursday said the decision on the proposed alliance with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) would be taken in the next two days.

Goa BJP chief Laxmikant Parsekar said that meeting between the leaders of the two parties last evening remained inconclusive.

"Nothing happened in the meeting last night. We expect the alliance to be decided in the next two days," he said at a press conference today.

MGP is currently a part of the Congress-led ruling coalition in the state, but has indicated that it might join hands with main opposition BJP for the March 3 Assembly polls.

Sources said that MGP might get six out of the total 40 seats in the tie-up with BJP.

"BJP-MGP getting together would prevent division of votes," a senior BJP leader said, adding that the two parties were ideologically close.

MGP had won two seats in 2007 polls, and supported Congress later, while BJP had got 14 seats.
