New Delhi: The security of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Home Secretary G K Pillai has been increased after intelligence warning that Maoists want to kill them for the killing of their colleague.

Sources in the government tell CNN-IBN that the intelligence agencies have got intercepts of Naxal communication which indicates that the rebels want to avenge the death of CPI-Maoist politburo member and spokesman Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad in a shootout with the police Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh on July 2.

Chidambaram's security personnel are now carrying AK-47 guns instead of pistols as part of the enhanced precautions.

Azad, who carried a reward of Rs.12 lakh on his head, was a member of the central committee of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). Hailing from Krishna district, he was associated with the Maoist movement for four decades.
