New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted exemption to BJP MP Ashok Argal, co-accused in cash for votes scam, to not appear before the Tis Hazari court on November 3. His application for anticipatory bail will be taken up on November 14.
The Delhi High Court had sought a response from the police on the bail pleas of the accused on Monday. The police have been asked to submit a status report on their investigations into the case by November 14.
On July 22, 2008, three BJP MPs including Ashok Argal, waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote. They alleged that they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
Argal has also been named in a supplementary charge sheet filed by Delhi Police in the case. The BJP maintains that its MPs had acted as whistleblowers and exposed attempts to buy MPs to win the trust vote.
