New Delhi: After the resignation of Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, the state is unlikely to get the successor as Lok Sabha elections are nearing, said Congress sources on Monday. The state is likely to be under the President's Rule.
Reddy had resigned last week following the passage of the Telangana Bill in Parliament which will bifurcate the state. He had earlier embarrassed the party by going against it and holding protest for a united Andhra.
Telangana, the 29th state of India, is just a signature away and questions were raised over the scheduling of the Assembly elections.
The Election Commission had said that the decision would depend on when the state gets divided officially. If the Centre bifurcates the state within a month's time, elections for the Andhra and Telangana Assemblies would take place simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls. If the Centre delays the division, elections will be delayed.
The Centre has not yet fixed a date for the state's division. Once the date is finalised, the Ministry of Home Affairs will communicate the same to EC and seek elections in both the state.
