In good news for WhatsApp users, the Meta-owned instant messaging application is now rolling out a new feature for videos. The new option will allow users to skip videos by double-tapping the left or right side of the screen.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, users have long been requesting new tools to have better control over playing videos, and it appears that their feedback has played a big role in the development of a new feature.
“Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.6 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to to skip forward and backward videos,” the report said.
The screenshot shared by WABetaInfo revealed that it is now possible to skip forward and backward videos by double-tapping the left or right side of the screen.
This feature operates in a manner similar to how it works on YouTube, making it familiar and intuitive for users who are already accustomed to navigating videos on the popular video-sharing platform.
With the new video skip feature, WhatsApp users can now easily navigate within videos they receive or send. This means you can now skip forward to get to the most crucial part of a video or rewind to re-watch something you might have missed without using the progress bar.
“This feature not only saves time but also enhances content navigation as users can easily rewind to revisit a particular moment or fast forward to skip past less relevant parts. This functionality adds a level of convenience that was previously unavailable on WhatsApp,” the report said.
The ability to skip forward and backward in videos is currently accessible to a select group of beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android update via the Google Play Store. This feature is gradually being made available to a wider audience in the upcoming weeks.
