After Sri Lanka's top order collapsed to 3/4 chasing India's 358-run target, the viral image of the scorecard sparked a meme fest on social media.

Sri Lanka’s World Cup misery continues as India took the island nation apart in their seventh game of the premier tournament. During the opening stages of Sri Lanka’s batting, Mohammed Siraj haunted the side once again as he took down three players within the first four overs, leaving Sri Lanka on a scoreline of three runs for four wickets.

The scoreboard ended up sparking some hilarious reactions on X. Several fans compared the scoreline to a football game with a fan hilariously suggesting that the island nation was winning on away goals. While uploading a picture of the score, he attached a caption that read, “Sri Lanka winning on away goals”.

One of the users reacted to the chucklesome post by saying, “That’s not how away goals work tho”.

A second felt that he came to the right place for the memes as he wrote, “No one can match Twitter”.

“Bro thinks it was a Champions League match”, wrote another.

A fourth funnily said, “Daniel Alexander be like SL won coz 4>3”.

Another fan suggested that he would never leave the app as he would miss the hilarious responses.

India and Sri Lanka faced each other at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. Heading into the game, the Men in Blue had won six matches on the trot while Sri Lanka struggled for form. The island nation won the toss and decided they would be bowling first. It was Rohit Sharma who fell first having scored just four runs in the game. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli rescued the innings for India, sticking together an 189-run partnership. Shreyas Iyer also played a fantastic innings, smashing 82 runs in 56 balls.

These crucial knocks anchored India to 357 runs at the end of the half. In the second innings, Bumrah dismissed Pathum Nissanka in his first delivery of the half. Mohammed Siraj followed up with the wickets of Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samrawickrama. India’s veteran pacer Mohammed Shami made more impact by scalping five wickets in the game. His heroics sealed a 302-run victory for India and a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

This is the second successive time the Indian cricket team has dismissed the Sri Lankan squad in the 50s in ODIs. The duo last faced in the Asia Cup final at the R Premadasa Stadium on September 17. The match saw Mohammed Siraj pluck six wickets, four of which came in a single over. With another three-wicket contribution from Hardik Pandya India were able to curb the host nation at 50 runs. In the second innings, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan led India’s batting charge to secure a dominant 10-wicket victory and the Asia Cup trophy.
