South Africa are on a six-hitting spree at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and they have broken the record for the most number of sixes hit in a single edition of the competition’s history.
During their seventh match of the world cup 2023, South Africa struck 15 sixes against New Zealand which has taken their overall tally for the competition to 82.

They surpassed the earlier record of 76 sixes set by England when they became the champions in 2019. While England took 11 innings to set the benchmark, South Africa razed it in just seven innings.
West Indies are third on the list with 68 sixes during the 2015 world cup followed by Australia (2007) at the fourth spot.
Meanwhile, South Africa racked up another 300-plus total in world cup 2023 powered by scintillating centuries from Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen.
De Kock continued his sensational run with a fourth century in seven innings. He’s now just one hundred away from drawing level with India’s Rohit Sharma’s all-time record of five tons in a single world cup which he set in 2019.
De Kock is also the first batter in the ongoing tourney to have crossed the 500-run mark and he’s now 545 runs from seven innings at 77.85.
“I am feeling really good lately,” De Kock told the broadcasters during a mid-innings chat. “Nice that everything is coming together at an important time for us.
He said New Zealand were quite impressive with the new ball and he did struggle to get into a rhythm.
“They bowled really well upfront, especially (Trent) Boult . I felt quite scratchy upfront, I couldn’t find my rhythm, I was getting a couple of messages from the guys on the bench to bat through. I just want to keep batting. My career is coming down to a finish, trying to bat as much as I can,” De Kock said.
The opener made 114 off 116 with 10 fours and three sixes at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Van der Dussen peeled off his second century of the world cup and was dismissed on 133, an innings that featured nine fours and five sixes.
David Miller scored a quickfire fifty – 53 off 30 – as South Africa finished with 357/4 after being put in to bat by New Zealand captain Tom Latham.
