Former Indian captain Virat Kohli once asked Ravichandran Ashwin about the batsman who was a ‘captain’s nightmare’. While Ashwin replied taking MS Dhoni’s name, Kohli replied with a no and said that it was Rohit Sharma. On his YouTube channel, Ashwin revealed the full chat he had with Kohli a few years ago.
The ‘Hitman’ has lately been in sublime form, especially after a lean patch during the IPL 2023 season. Rohit was struggling for runs after IPL but since the tour of West Indies began, the 36-year-old has regained his rhythm.
Having scored three fifties in four Asia Cup 2023 games, the Indian captain has been scoring runs freely, something which will be a major boost for the Men in Blue as Rohit is entering his purple patch at just the right moment ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup at home in October and November.

The swashbuckling opener scored 11 runs against Pakistan in the group stage clash at Pallekele but he followed it up with an unbeaten knock of 74 against Nepal, a 56-run inning against Pakistan in Colombo and another 53-run knock against Sri Lanka.
No wonder then, that Kohli considered Rohit a ‘captain’s nightmare’ as he pointed out that if the ‘Hitman’ is batting in a T20 fixture in the death overs, a bowler simply won’t know where to bowl him, such is his talent that he can demolish any bowling attack in the world.
Ashwin revealed the chat he had with Virat 5-6 years back in his latest YouTube video.
“5-6 years back, Virat Kohli and I had a discussion while Rohit was batting. I don’t remember which match it was. Seeing Rohit bat, I was thinking, ‘Where do you even bowl to him?’,” Ashwin recalled.
“If Rohit is set after 15-20 overs, you wouldn’t know where to bowl him. Virat asked me, ‘Do you know who is a captain’s nightmare at the death?’ I asked ‘Is it (MS) Dhoni?’,” added the spin wizard.

“Kohli was like, ‘No, it is Rohit. When I asked him why, he said you won’t know where to bowl’. If Rohit Sharma is batting at the end of the 16th over in a T20, where will you bowl? He has got all the shots in the book and once he played an extraordinary knock in Chinnaswamy Stadium that Kohli can never forget, it seems,” revealed the 36-year-old.
Kohli also has been in his midas touch having recently smashed his 3rd ODI century in the year 2023 and ahead of the Asia Cup final, and the home World Cup, these are promising signs for the fans of Men in Blue.
