'Brilliant Side on A4 Paper': Michael Vaughan Responds to Mohammad Kaif's Viral Quote
Mohammed Kaif had branded India as the better side than Australia despite their defeat in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has given a ‘tongue in cheek’ response to Mohammad Kaif’s recent remarks about Australia after the ICC World Cup 2023 final.

Despite Australia’s victory in the summit clash, Kaif said that he still believed India had been better than Australia and that the side lost owing to having one bad day in cricket.

“Congratulations to Australia, but I am not ready to accept that the best team won the World Cup. This Indian team has been the best side. They would win so many times playing against the same Australian team, even though they lost today. It was one of those bad day, this happens sometimes,” Kaif said on Star Sports.

India had an undefeated run in the group stage and made their way into the final after a big 70-run win against New Zealand in the semi-final.

However, the hosts were shocked by Australia in the final when they faced a six-wicket defeat against them. This also ended their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Vaughan did not quite agree with Kaif’s statement and responded with a sarcastic post on social media (formerly Twitter).

He said that if teams were to be judged on paper, England would be deemed the world champions.

Despite being the defending champions, England had a lacklustre performance in the World Cup, winning only three out of nine games. They never got going in the tournament and could only win matches against the Netherlands and Pakistan in the league stage.

For the upcoming West Indies white-ball series, England retained only six players from their 2023 World Cup squad. India, on the other hand, will now take on Australia in a 5-match T20I series.

The first match of this T20I series will be played on Thursday, November 23 at the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The selectors have given rest to almost all the players from the World Cup squad. Suryakumar Yadav leads the side and apart from him, Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna are the other two players retained from the World Cup. Meanwhile, Matthew Wade will take the reins of the Australian side, marking his return to international series after more than a year
