When Jimin Nearly Lost His Chance To Debut With BTS

BTS member Jimin has now become a force to be reckoned with. Be it music, fashion, or dancing, the K-pop idol never leaves a chance behind to brand himself as a mass entertainer. Ever since his debut with BTS in 2013, ARMY has been a witness to several shades of Jimin, from his teenage muscular boy era to a well-established solo performer. Now, the Face hitmaker is celebrating his 28th birthday on Friday, October 13. But did you know Jimin was in major danger of not debuting with BTS? Despite being a dance major, it was his dancing skills that nearly cost him his chance to debut. The BTS member candidly spoke about his insecurity back in 2017, while making an appearance on JTBC’s Please Take Care Of My Refrigerator.

So, why didn’t Jimin almost make it to BTS?

While making the shocking revelation Jimin explained, “I was in danger of not debuting because I didn’t dance well enough. My major was modern dance. Because idol choreography is so different from what I was used to, I found it difficult.”

The K-pop idol has spoken about his insecure trainee day numerous times, even while joining bandmate Suga on the rapper’s variety show Suchwita. Jimin was seen travelling down memory lanes to recall his early days at BigHit Music. The Vibe hitmaker admitted it took him quite a long time to perfect his dancing prowess so much so that he almost didn’t see himself debuting alongside BTS at the time.

“When I first joined the agency as a trainee, I didn’t have any ambition to be on the team because I didn’t think BTS was my team,” Jimin confessed. But he changed his perspective quickly and rapper Suga played a major role behind it. “I still remember the lights were off, and we were in our beds. I think we woke up because RM was snoring, and you were on the top bunk. You said, ‘You’re a good singer, so I really want you to be on our team.’ That was when my ambition sparked,” Jimin continued.

It didn’t take long for the Agust D rapper to back his statement, “I knew what your tone and your voice would sound like when you sang. No one else on the team had that tone. I felt that you could become a singer with a unique voice,” Suga also revealed about questioning BigHit’s motives at the time, who were adamant about training Jimin to join the rap line of the group. He insisted the agency train Jimin as a singer because of his unique voice.
