While Selena Gomez is confirmed to portray the multiple Grammy winner in the upcoming project, there is no information regarding additional cast members so far.

Pop singer and actress Selena Gomez is set to star in the biopic of the singing legend Linda Ronstadt. As per a Variety report, the project is in the developmental stage, with producers including the legend’s manager, John Boylan, and James Keach, who created the 2019 documentary, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice. While Selena Gomez is confirmed to portray the multiple Grammy winner in the upcoming project, there is no information regarding additional cast members so far.

According to the portal, Selena Gomez has teased about the upcoming project on a now-deleted Instagram story. She has posted a picture of Linda Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, Simple Dreams. Moreover, Linda Ronstadt’s official social media handle reposted Variety’s report about the biopic and wrote, “It all started with a simple dream.”

The casting choice seems ideal, as both Linda Ronstadt and Selena Gomez are Mexican. The latter has received two Golden Globe nominations for her appearance in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, in which she stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. Selena Gomez rose to prominence as an actor on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place and has appeared in a number of successful films and shows since then. She also established herself as a pop singer with a slew of hit numbers.

Linda Ronstadt is a music legend, with her albums Heart Like a Wheel and Simple Dreams from the 1970s achieving critical and commercial success. Throughout her career, she has received 11 Grammy Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy.

Earlier, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman made Linda Ronstadt’s 2019 documentary, which explored the artist’s nearly five-decade career and dominance of the country-rock genre. The singer announced her retirement in 2011, subsequently stating that she is unable to sing due to progressive supranuclear palsy, which was reportedly first misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s disease.

Meanwhile, recently, Selena Gomez announced that she is taking another break from social media to focus on “What really matters”. This is not the first time that Selena has taken a break from social media. Back in November 2023, she announced a hiatus against the backdrop of the Israel-Palestine conflict. However, she was back after a few days. Moreover, Selena was in the middle of a widespread rumour after the Golden Globes Awards ceremony. It was speculated that she was gossiping about Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner at the event.
