After winning big at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Robert Downey Jr. seems to be on a winning spree, as he now bagged the Best Supporting Actor award at the Critics Choice Awards. The 58-year-old has been winning accolades for his role as Admiral Lewis Strauss in the all-time highest-grossing biopic, Oppenheimer. After delivering a hilarious acceptance speech at the Globes, Downey Jr. has once again left the audience in splits as he recalled some of his ‘worst’ reviews from the critics members. During his speech after receiving the Critics Choice Award for Oppenheimer, the actor began by noting that he loves critics because of their “beautiful feedback,” some of which he believes is “so poetic.”
“I was thinking this morning, I love critics… They’ve given me such beautiful feedback—really, just so many great moments—and some of it is so poetic. I just want to share some of their thoughts with you over the years,” he began.
Further, reciting some of the worst reviews that he had received in the past, Downey continued, “The first one is kind of like Haiku: ‘Sloppy, messy and lazy.’ The next one is more metaphoric: ‘Like Pee-Wee Herman emerging from a coma.’ This was from a Brit: ‘A puzzling waste of talent.’ And lastly, and this one lingered: ‘Amusing as a bed-locked fart.”

While his speech left the audience laughing their hearts out, the Avengers actor also went on to thank the entire team of Oppenheimer, as he fondly called them “Oppenhomies.”
Quite a master with his words, Downey jokingly said, “Every day of filming was like having my ego’s ass handed to me at the door, and I think it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”
Oppenheimer wins big
At the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, the Christopher Nolan film is among the ones to have received the maximum number of nominations, alongside Barbie and the Killers of the Flower Moon. Having been nominated in 13 categories, Oppenheimer has been leading the line with eight Critics Choice Awards.
Beginning with Robert Downey Jr. winning the Best Supporting Actor, it was followed by the Best Director Award for Nolan, the Best Actor Award for Cillian Murphy, and then awards for the Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Visual Effects, Best Score, and Best Editing, among others.
Notably, the 29th Critics Choice Awards was held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday, 14 January 2024.
