Rescue-41, Mission 41-The Great Rescue: Filmmakers Rush to Register Titles on Uttarakhand Tunnel Op | Exclusive
The latest addition to the real-life stories turning into a film is the rescue mission of the 41 workers who were trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel.

True stories are the most powerful means of touching the emotions of an audience. The dramatic depiction of true stories in epic cinema has proven to be a lucrative formula in the film industry. Bollywood boasts many amazing films to fit everyone’s preferences, ranging from biopics to historical dramas to crime and war stories. The latest addition to the real-life stories turning into a film is the rescue mission of the 41 workers who were trapped in Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel.

After 16 days of intense efforts by multiple agencies, all 41 workers trapped inside the tunnel in Uttarkashi were safely rescued on Tuesday evening. Now, News18 Showsha has learned that many filmmakers and production houses are racing to claim film titles based on India’s successful mission. The offices of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), Producers Guild of India, and Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC) in Mumbai have had many requests to register various film titles.

Actor Anil Nagrath who is also the chairman of IMPPA says that his office has already received a couple of requests for the title registration, “Rescue, Rescue-41, and Mission 41- The Great Rescue are the titles that have already been registered. The tragic news turned into a joy of happiness for the entire country only last evening, so a lot of people will now come forward to register their titles. Over the next few days, we will be reviewing all these requests and will grant permission on a first come first serve basis.”

Earlier this year, a similar situation happened when many production houses and filmmakers rushed to register their titles when India moonwalked into history by becoming the first country to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth’s only natural satellite.

Actor, producer, and director Jamnadas Majethia who is also the chairman of IFTPC feels many people rush to register their titles but only one or two movies get made, “Registering a title is an easy job but making a film is a difficult process. Many filmmakers register a title to make others feel that they should not make a film on a similar subject. There are many permissions involved when it comes to making a film on a real-life incident so we will have to wait and watch how many films get made.”

Trade expert Girish Wankhede feels the subject can make for a good movie, “I am not surprised with the rush to register titles around the rescue mission. We had Kaala Patthar in the past which might not have done great at the box office but the film was lauded by the cinephile as well as the critics.”

Ask him which actor would make the cut and he says, “Obviously it has to be Akshay Kumar (laughs). He is our official rescue person when it comes to films. The other great choice would be Ajay Devgn.”

On the other hand, trade analyst Taran Adarsh doesn’t think the subject warrants a movie, “We recently had Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue which was a disaster. I don’t see a movie on this topic being made anytime soon.”
