'Awesome Purchase': Chetan Narula Explains How Having Ajinkya Rahane Would Help CSK's Team Combination
CSK bought Ajinkya Rahane for 50 Lakhs in the recently concluded IPL 2023 Auctions

Cricket journalist Chetan Narula believes that having Ajinkya Rahane can help Chennai Super Kings in forming a balanced playing XI in the upcoming IPL.

CSK bought Ajinkya Rahane for 50 Lakhs in the recently concluded IPL 2023 Auctions. The Dhoni-led team also bought two all-rounders in Ben Stokes and Jason Holder.

“What they’re trying to do is they’re trying to rectify the imbalance of last year. They had to let go of Shardul Thakur because of purse issues this year. So, they are not only replacing Bravo, they are replacing Shardul too,” Chetan said.

“It would also not be a surprising thing that both of them (Stokes and Holder) are playing in the same XI. But how do you think they are going to be able to find that balance when it they can play only four international players? This is why Ajinkya Rahane’s purchase is an awesome purchase because this allows you to bench Devon Conway,” Chetan added.

Chetan said that benching Devin Conway will open up an overseas slot.

Benching Devin Conway and bringing in Ajinkya Rahane opens up two overseas slot since Bravo is no longer there any playing 11. They bought two overseas all-rounders who bowl eight overs and the bat in the middle order. I think that’s where they find a balance,” Chetan said.

“You play Moeen Ali and that still leaves one spot for a fourth international player for somebody like a Mitchell Santner. Also in the past CSK has sometimes also played with three overseas player, which is a trend now,” he added.
