When Govinda Sought His Mother's Permission To Drink Beer

Actor Govinda may not be very active in films these days, but the actor was a big superstar of Hindi cinema in the 90s. Govinda has had several super hits like Aankhen, Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Hero No.1, Dulhe Raja, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Partner to his credit. The actor attended The Kapil Sharma show where he recalled drinking for the first time.

Govinda shared that he doesn’t smoke or drink. He had promised his mother that he wouldn’t drink or smoke before going to Bollywood. Govinda, who came to the movies with these words, is still more or less like that.

“But we can’t avoid friends, right? I once went to a pub on his insistence. Then all my friends insisted on me to drink. But I didn’t agree. But they are forcing me to the core. So I came up with an idea,” the actor added.

“I called my mother and asked her, Amma, can I drink beer? I went to the pub with all my friends and they asked me to drink. Shall I try one beer?” Amma Nirmala Devi didn’t go easy on him. She said, “You don’t drink forever. It is a very bad habit. If you want to enjoy it, so just enjoy it and leave it.” After this, Govinda did drink beer once because of his friends.

In a recent interview, Govinda said that he has become more “businesslike” these days and no longer solves problems emotionally. When asked if he indulges his spiritual side these days, he said, “No, it’s the opposite; I have become more corrupt and bitter. These days I party, smoke and drink too. The old Govinda was very pious. Earlier, my emotional nature got in the way of my work, but now I don’t get emotional. I deal with situations more practically and business-like.”
