Despite being a celebrated actress on small screen, actor Urvashi Dholakia feels disheartened when showmakers only see her as the iconic villain Komolika from Kasautii Zindagi Kay, a role that continues to define her even after 15 years. In a chat with HT, she said, “Everyone still calls me Komolika. Just because one thing has become so powerful, it’s wrong to think I can’t do anything else. Where is the creativity of the producers and creative directors when they can’t think of me beyond that one role?”
Urvashi has starred in shows like Chandrakanta, Ishq Mein Marjawan, Tu Aashiqui and Naagin 6. However, fans feel they don’t see enough of her on screen. She explained that she waits for more exciting roles and can’t keep doing the same thing repeatedly. “I keep coming and going because something has to come my way which is more exciting that what I actually get. I can’t do the same monotonous thing again and again. I have been typecast so much. It’s like saying Rekha ne Umraao Jaan kia toh bas that is it, that is the peak of everything. No, it doesn’t stop there!” said the actor.
After Kasautii Zindagi Kay, Urvashi joined Comedy Circus to change her image from Komolika. She said that she is thankful for the continued recognition of her iconic role but wants acknowledgment for her other work too. Now in the TV show Pushpa Impossible as a lawyer, she hopes viewers will accept her in different roles. “I’m happy and thankful that the makers at least thought of me in a different light, and I got this chance to play an out and out positive character. I know miracles can’t happen, but there has to be a start somewhere. Now, when I hear people referring to me as Devi Singh Shikhavat (her role in the show), I feel the start has happened. So, yes, I’d love to do more such roles,” she said.
Urvashi Dholakia also featured in the celebrity dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11, as a contestant.
