Bharat Rang Mahotsav is a theatre festival that will take place across India until February 21. This annual festival is organised by the National School of Drama. From regional to folk to classic plays, the event will cater to more than 150 plays from across the world. It is claimed that Bharat Rang Mahotsav will be the biggest theatre festival in the world. On this occasion, a Marathi play, To Rajhans Ek, has been invited to the Bharat Rang Mahotsav by its organisers. This play focuses on creating awareness about mental health through the story of a farmer.

To Rajhans Ek is directed by Sachin Shinde and written by Datta Patil. Actors Prajakt Deshmukh, Amey Barve, Dhananjay Gosavi, Hemant Mahajan, and Anita Date are playing the major roles in the play. The lighting is handled by Pranav Sapkale and Rohit Sarode is composing the music. The play presents how a man’s mental health is burdened by societal expectations in the rural world. The main character of the play is a farmer who is struggling to make ends meet. The play makes the audience ponder the mental health of a common rural man, in this case, a farmer, which is usually ignored. As a result, they tend to make some extreme decisions in their lives. The sole motive of the main character in Rajhans Ek is to live free like a bird with no expectations or societal burdens. The play has a minimalist set design, which includes a bench and a chair. So far, 30 trials of this play have been done and this will be the first time that this play will be performed outside of Maharashtra.

In the backdrop of the ongoing farmer’s protest in Delhi, this play is expected to highlight the problems of farmers in society. Many times, the mental health of the farmer is ignored, leaving the farmer vulnerable to mental health issues. This play will be performed in the heartland of India while the farmers are aggressively approaching Delhi to present their demands. The Bharat Rang Mahotsav will conclude with the play Samudra Manthan, directed by NSD’s Chittaranjan Tripathy.
