Despite not setting the box office on fire, Ajay Devgn’s latest release, Maidaan, is undeniably earning admiration within the Bollywood industry. Although there has been a lukewarm reception at the ticket counters, the sports drama recently garnered support from actress Taapsee Pannu. Taking to her Instagram Stories, Taapsee Pannu shared her thoughts on the movie alongside a snapshot from the theatre. In her post, she wrote, “Maidaan. Then let’s not say our big films lack soul and heart.”
Taapsee Pannu also gave a shoutout to her friend Abhilash Thapliyal, who features in a significant role in Maidaan. “Abhilash Thapliyal, cheers to adding one feather at a time to the filmography hat,” she wrote.
Apart from Taapsee Pannu, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Javed Akhtar, Karan Johar and former cricketer Sourav Ganguly also lauded the film and shared their opinions on social media. Shahid Kapoor dropped the film’s poster and wrote, “Really enjoyed watching Maidaan today. Such a well-made and well-performed film. Go watch it guys. This is a genuine candid post you all. Good films deserve to be seen. All the best to the entire team.”
Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, Maidaan draws inspiration from the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, who served as a coach and manager of the Indian football team from 1950 to 1963. In the film, Ajay plays the lead role of Rahim, while it also features stellar performances from Gajraj Rao as a discerning journalist and Priya Mani as the supportive wife of Ajay’s character.
The film, which premiered on April 10, has garnered a total box office collection of over Rs 25 crore. The movie was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore.
On the professional front, Ajay Devgn boasts an impressive lineup of projects in his pipeline. He is set to grace the screen in Director Raj Kumar Gupta’s highly anticipated Raid 2. Ajay Devgn will be joined by Vaani Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh. He is also slated to star in Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming romance drama Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha.
Meanwhile, Taapsee Pannu will appear in director Mudassar Aziz’s upcoming comedy film Khel Khel Mein. It also features Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan and Vaani Kapoor in pivotal roles.
