The 2007 Tamil superhit Paruthiveeran is regarded as a classic romantic drama film, which starred Karthi and Priyamani as the protagonists. The audience loved the appearance of young Muththazhagu in the film, who featured in one of its hit singles. A photo of the little girl is now making rounds on the internet, going viral.
The young girl is named Karthika Devi who captured the audience’s heart with the song Ariyadha Vayasu. She played the younger version of Priyamani’s character, Muththazhagu. The viral image shows the former child actress all grown up, wearing simple yet elegant traditional clothes. The image is taken from a media interaction, last year.
In this earlier interview, Karthika Devi talked about her experience of working in the film. The former actress was born in a village near Madurai. She revealed that when she was in fourth standard some people came to take auditions in the village. At that time, she loved to dance so she participated in the audition and got the role of young Muththazhagu. Karthika then worked on the film for three months. A schedule of the film was shot in her village and during that period, her mother took care of the crew’s food. According to her, her mother cooked for Ameer, the film’s director, and Priyamani.
Since Paruthiveeran, Karthika Devi appeared in a few more films but was met with little success and a meagre salary.
Released in 2007, Paruthiveeran was written, directed and produced by Ameer. The cast includes Karthi and Priyamani as the lead pair along with Ponvannan, Saravanan, Sujatha Sivakumar and many others. It was produced under the Team Work production banner.
Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the music for the film while the cinematography was done by Ramji and the editor is Raja Mohammad. Upon its release, the film became a blockbuster hit and ran for more than a year in theatres. The film earned Priyamani a National Film Award for Best Actress.
