Bollywood is a challenging industry, with numerous hopeful actors trying their fortunes in Mumbai every single day. While many face disappointment, very few attain success and are able to retain it further. Former actor Girish Kumar’s story is one such example of Bollywood’s transient nature. He achieved sudden fame at 24, but surprisingly opted to leave Bollywood shortly after and pursue a career in business. Girish Kumar marked his entry into the film industry alongside Shruti Haasan in the 2013 film Ramaiya Vastavaiya, produced by his father, Kumar Taurani, the owner of Tips Industries. His debut film garnered praise for his performance, especially the viral hit song Jeene Laga Hoon. Despite being a Prabhu Deva directorial, the film achieved moderate success with an earnings of just under Rs 50 crore. Girish decided to leave acting at the age of 27 after his second film, the romantic drama Loveshhuda. The movie was a box office failure.
In 2016, coinciding with the release of Loveshhuda, Girish Kumar privately married his childhood sweetheart, Krsna. He kept the marriage under wraps for a year, revealing it only through an Instagram post in 2017. Girish explained that he chose to keep it a secret initially to protect his career, fearing the married label might impact his image as a romantic hero. He later expressed his desire to share his love for Krsna openly and officially declare their relationship to the world.
After a brief appearance in a short film in 2018, Girish Kumar has refrained from acting. Presently, he serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Tips Industries, inheriting the responsibilities of the Rs 4700-crore film production, distribution, and music company. Transitioning to a role behind the camera, Girish is actively engaged in film distribution, contributing to projects such as the Ponniyin Selvan series and the upcoming Sriram Raghavan thriller Merry Christmas.
In 2016, Girish portrayed Gaurav in Loveshhuda, a romantic comedy alongside Navneet Kaur Dhillon. Unfortunately, the film faced criticism from critics and failed to make an impact at the box office. Following this, he took on a role in Collateral Damage, a short film shedding light on an outdated village practice. Released on 29 November 2018, the film gained recognition by being screened at various film festivals.
