Ranjeet REVEALS Raj Kapoor Made 'Mera Naam Joker' Heroine Sit On His Lap During Narration: 'He Would Call...'
Ranjit recalled an anecdote about Raj Kapoor and his film Mera Naam Joker that starred Simi Garewal, Rishi Kapoor, Kseniya Ryabinkina, Padmini, Manoj Kumar, and Dharmendra.

Ranjeet, known for his villainous roles, shared a memorable encounter with veteran actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor during a recent interview. Recalling his first meeting with Kapoor at the studio, Ranjeet mentioned being captivated by the life-size cut-outs of actresses from Kapoor’s films. Describing Kapoor’s charm, Ranjeet mentioned his fair complexion, red cheeks, and light eyes, highlighting how the actor’s on-screen persona closely mirrored his real-life demeanor.

During their conversation, Kapoor shared an interesting insight about the film ‘Mera Naam Joker,’ showing Ranjeet an album from that era. Kapoor’s casual interaction with his heroines on set, where he referred to them affectionately as ‘putar’ (daughter) while explaining scenes, left a lasting impression on Ranjeet. The actor recalled during an interview with ANI, “Mera Naam Joker picture thi na… uski heroine. He told us, ‘Mera Naam Joker ki heroine ko god mein bithakar scene samjhaaya hai (I made them sit on my lap and narrated the scenes). He wasn’t being flirtatious while doing so. He would call the actress ‘putar’ (daughter) when he asked her to sit on his lap.”

Mera Naam Joker, a film directed by Raj Kapoor himself, featured a stellar cast including Simi Garewal, Rishi Kapoor, Kseniya Ryabinkina, Padmini, Manoj Kumar, and Dharmendra in pivotal roles.

In the same interview, Ranjeet recalled what it was like in Bollywood at that time and how everyone would gather at his house in Mumbai to party. Ranjeet said, “My parents lived in Delhi and I lived in Juhu, so everyone would gather there in the evening. There were no inhibitions or formalities or whatever.” “Reena Roy would make paranthas, Parveen Babi would make drinks, Moushumi Chatterjee would make fish, Neetu Kapoor would make bhindi, it used to be that kind of atmosphere,” he said.

Ranjeet added, “Name any hero and he was there.” Ranjeet said that the likes of Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Sanjay Khan, Feroz Khan, Dharmendra, and Shatrughan Sinha, would all attend these parties at his home. “People like Rajesh Khanna would drink one-two bottles in a night,” he said.
