Quentin Tarantino's Final Film The Movie Critic Shelved? What We Know
While Quentin Tarantino didn't confirm or deny if the film is on hold, he did clarify the false casting reports.

After the success of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino announced that The Movie Critic would be his final film. Since then, updates have been scarce, fueling speculation that Tarantino might have shelved the project. However, this isn’t entirely accurate. In a recent interview on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Tarantino addressed these rumours. While he didn’t confirm or deny if the film is on hold, he did clarify the false casting reports. Despite rumours suggesting actors like Tom Cruise and Paul Walter Hauser were being considered for the lead role, Tarantino stated that these claims are incorrect. He also pointed out that the media often circulates inaccurate information.

The filmmaker said, “If you’re some sort of a transient celebrity reporter of kind, if you hear, ‘Quinton is going to make a Star Trek movie’ or ‘Quinton is going to do a movie called The Movie Critic’ or ‘Quinton is going to do anything.’ The thing is they can say anything, ‘Oh, Quinton is going to cast Tom Cruise, it’s for sure,’ ‘Quinton is going to cast Tom Cruise as The Movie Critic’ or ‘Quinton is going to cast Tom Cruise as Captain Kirk.’ The thing was kind of funny about The Movie Critic was they started saying that I was going to cast that actor Paul Walter Hauser, but the thing was funny about it, they just think he looks like a critic so that’s what they picked up."

Quentin Tarantino noted that once a piece of information is published, it tends to spread rapidly and is picked up by numerous sources. Since he doesn’t always address or correct these stories, they often get reported as fact, even if they’re incomplete or inaccurate. Despite this, Tarantino expressed his appreciation for the interest in his work and the volume of articles that were published about his projects.

In the same interview, Quentin Tarantino also shed light on the rumours about him directing a Star Trek movie. Putting rest to the speculation, he said, “It’s never going to happen. There’s been so much misinformation about what it was going to be, I mean nothing but misinformation."

The director further revealed that he has been focusing on writing for the theatre and hinted that it might be a comedy. When Bill Maher asked why he isn’t making a movie instead, Tarantino mentioned that if the play is successful, he could turn that into a film. Seems like fans who are eager to watch his final film might need to wait a bit longer.
