Priyanka Chopra's Cousin Meera Chopra Says National Film Awards Give Recognition To 'Mediocre' Films
Meera Chopra spoke about how film festivals and National Film Awards are losing their authenticity. She spoke about the corruption and said 'mediocre' films are being recognized.

Meera Chopra has been working in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi movies to state a few. In a recent interview, she called herself an ‘outsider’ and said that she did not receive any support from within the industry. She also called out National Awards and film festivals. The actor is related to Priyanka Chopra and they are cousins.

In a conversation with the Hitflik YouTube channel, Meera Chopra talked about how the ‘corruption’ in film festivals. She mentioned how a lot of films get into film festivals and that pushes ‘genuine’ films to the background. She said, “We have a big corruption problem in the country. And this hurts genuine talent. We have IFFI, and we have MAMI, but even at IFFI, so many films are getting in by ‘jugaad’. We need to eliminate this and give importance to genuine talent. If you’re pushing your B-class projects into festivals by unfair means, it brings into question that festival’s authenticity.”

Chopra also talked about the National Film Awards and said how ‘mediocre’ films are being awarded. She continued, “We used to look up to National Awards even six-seven years back, but now you see mediocre films being awarded. I think people need to take it more seriously.”

In the same conversation, she also talked about her experience with designers when she attended Cannes. She said how designers refused to give her clothes. Chopra said, “In India, they’ve made such a huge deal of who’s wearing what at these international events. I was not getting the great designers I wanted, because all the great designers were sourcing clothes for A-listers. They would unabashedly tell my stylist that they would only give their clothes to A-listers.”

On the work front, she was last seen in Safed where she shared the screen with Abhay Varma. The movie was directed by Sandeep Singh and it was released on OTT to mixed reviews.
